We could easily decree 2011 the Year of Lady Gaga because she was EVERYWHERE from her year-long concert tour and subsequent coffee table book with Terry Richardson to a Thanksgiving special and countless red carpet (not to mention street style) moments that kept us both intrigued and entertained. You'd think Mother Monster would want to take a break in 2012, but oh no, that's not her style. She's married to her fans, as you know, and has bestowed little monsters worldwide with the promise that 2012 will also belong to Gaga as evidenced by her presence on the cover of Vanity Fair's January 2012 issue. In an eye-popping cover shot by renowned photog Annie Leibovitz, Our Lady sits regally in resplendent red Atelier Versace while smiling a smile that says we have no idea what she's going to gift us with next. Folks, I can tell you one thing, the interview in Vanity Fair alone will have you gasping and wanting more with talk of creativity, marriage, and her upcoming video for "Marry the Night."

The spread inside the magazine opens with Gaga splayed across the berth of the Staten Island Ferry wearing a swan-like Alexander McQueen dress and a dramatic pair of drop earrings by Kenneth Jay Lane. Page after page after features Miss G doing e! verythin g from squatting in fur, eating a hot dog on the streets of New York in a voluminous gold Versace gown, doing laundry in Valentino, and, um, posing STARKIES for Tony Bennett. She invites writer Lisa Robinson into her home (the first time a journalist has ever been allowed inside the Germanotta compound on the Upper West Side) and actually cooks her a spaghetti and fresh tomato sauce meal.

What's most exciting, though, is that Mama M also takes Robinson on a tour of her old haunts when she was a struggling performer on Manhattan's Lower East Side. She opens up about her troubled relationships with men ("...its a hideous place to be in when someone that you love has convinced you that you will never be good enough for anyone. I had a man say to me, You will die alone in a house bigger than you know, with all your money and hit records, and you will die alone.). But more than that, she reveals a side of herself that we don't already know, a tender side that she says will be on full display in the true-to-life tale of her "Marry the Night" video which, Gaga says was about getting ready to relive the worst day of my life. The video, which she directed herself, debuts this Thursday. In the meantime, we suggest you get your paws on Vanity Fair which should hit stands, ohhh, NOW.
