First things first: we wouldn't recommend thinking too hard about some of the details of what we're about to talk about if you're planning on eating anytime soon. Ok, public service announcement over with...do you wanna see Lady Gaga's meat dress in the flesh (how could we resist)? We know that we've been curious as to what happened to the famous piece of sartorial charcuterie since Mama Monster wore it to the 2010 VMAs. Did it get thrown out? Frozen? Did someone eat it? Turns out the answer is none of the above--the dress and matching boots were preserved (turned into jerky, we think) and painted to maintain the original color and are now on display at Washington D.C.'s National Museum of Women in the Arts. Part of an exhibit called "Women Who Rock: Vision, Passion, and Power" from the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, is in Washington until January 6th, when it continues its tour through Omaha, Seattle, and Phoenix.
The exhibit also includes items from Madonna, Stevie Nicks, Cyndi Lauper, and Cher, and focuses on women who have had an impact on not only music but also politics and social issues. Lady Gaga has, of course, been a huge proponent for LGBT rights, has spoken out against! bullying, and encourages young people to be who they are and for society at large to accept them. Visitors to the exhibit can also peek at Gaga's childhood piano, and teens can participate in a number of workshops the museum is holding in a partnership with Girls Rock! D.C..
