Im going to dedicate this next song to Lady Gaga.

Uh-oh! The last time Madonna began a sentence like that onstage, she ended up taking a catty swipe at nemesis Elton John. And as it happens, she went on to give Gaga a noted Elton John partisan the same treatment when dedicating the song Masterpiece to her at anAtlantic City concertlast Saturday.

You wanna know something? I love her, the Material Girl said of Mother Monster. I love her. I do love her. But wait for it Imitation is the highest form of flattery. Zing!

But Madge followed up her backhanded compliment by prophesying that one day, very soon, were going to be on stage together. Just you wait. You think Im kidding? I love Lady Gaga.

We actually do think she might be kidding! Masterpiece, it should be noted, was also the song she dedicated to John last month and the one that won her a Golden Globe over Elton Johns Hello Hello this year. John and Gaga are close, of course (shes his son Zacharys godmother), so it seems likely that shes using the same mock-tribute method to take potshots at them both. But who knows, Madge mayve been sincere about the two ladies sharing a stage together, which would certainly gin up all sorts of interesting publicity for the duo.

Ultimately, though, were hoping the feud continues, if only so we can find more excuses to callback the phrase fairground stripper.
