Lady Gaga says she feels worthless
She seems to have it all - chart-topping singles, millions of albums sold and a growing number of Twitter followers - but Lady Gaga confessed to Oprah Winfrey that she sometimes feels worthless.
In a candid interview on Oprahs Next Chapter on Winfreys OWN network that aired Sunday night, the 25-year-old singer confessed that years of being bullied as a child tug at her self-esteem to this day. According to MSNBC.com, she said that her classmates threw trash at her and called her a slut. Gaga said that even all the accolades she gets today sometimes are not enough to make her forget these memories.
All the praise you receive, something inside of you is scarred by those experiences, she said.
MTV.com reported that Gaga is still baffled by what causes people to bully others.
"There really is no difference between the bully and the victim," she said. "I would like to do a psychological autopsy on as many bullies and victims as possible...How do we understand what breeds hatred, what breeds anger?"
Parts of the TV special were filmed at Harvard University, where Gaga recently teamed up with Winfrey to launch her Born This Way Foundation.
"I just have one thing to say before we get started: We got Oprah! ...Thank you from all of us - from my entire team, from my mother, from the bottom of the hearts of so many people who believe in what we're doing today," Gaga said at the launch.
She said that the foundation seeks to inspire young people across America to be confident in themselves despite what others say - much like last years hit single, Born This Way:
"How can we inspire young people to know they have the power to be brave?" she asked.
