When Lady Gaga debuted her new single "Born This Way" at last year's Grammy Awards, she turned more than a few heads, and it wasn't just to look at her see-through, latex dress. After hearing the song for the first time, critics, musicians and fans alike were questioning the authenticity of the song, and said that it sounded quite a bit like Madonna's single "Express Yourself."

This isn't the first time Lady Gaga has been accused of "borrowing" from other artists, but it's the first time she has been publicly confronted by one. ABC News reported that Madonna is finally commenting on Gaga's single, only adding fuel to the fire.

"I thought, what a wonderful way to redo my son," Madonna said in an interview with Newsweek for their January 30 issue. "I mean, I recognized the chord changes. I thought it wasinteresting."

After the performance aired at the Grammy awards, a fan posted a YouTube video comparing the two songs side by side. Some people commented that they agreed that the songs were similar.

"I noticed this when the song came out," one person commented. "I couldn't exactly place my finger on what Lady Gaga was copying, but it sounded like a rehash of all the pop songs I heard in the early 90s."

Last year after the performance first aired, E! Online reported that even Madonna's brother, Chris Ciccone agreed that the songs sounded alike.

"I was like, 'Express Yourself,' wow," Ciccone said. "And it's not like it's a direct copy, but it's more like that song than any o! ther son g I've ever heard before."

In the past, Gaga has always said she admired Madonna as a person and an artist, and Madonna said in her interview with ABC News that she wasn't "annoyed" with the similarities because she has obviously been an influence on Gaga's music.

"There's a lot of ways to look at it. I can't really be annoyed by it...because obviously, I've influenced her."
