Lady Gaga gets GLAAD nomination

Lady Gaga has received a nomination from the Gay And Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) for her work in encouraging equal rights for the gay community.

The award-winning superstar and her hit album Born This Way have been singled out for the Outstanding Music Artist category, while former winner Ricky Martin has been chosen as the Spanish-language nominee for his album Musica + Alma + Sexo.

Clint Eastwood's J Edgar - which stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the late FBI head and Armie Hammer as his rumoured confidante and colleague Clyde Tolson, Beginners - in which Christopher Plummer plays a gay father - and Albert Nobbs (with Glenn Close playing a cross-dressing butler) have been nominated in the outstanding film field.

Torchwood: Miracle Day, Grey's Anatomy and Shameless battle it out for the best drama series, while Glee faces rivalry from The Big C, Happy Endings and Modern Family for the outstanding comedy series.

The awards, now in their 23rd year, recognise and honour media for outstanding images of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

"This year's nominees enlighten and entertain, while spotlighting the diversity of our community. Audiences expect to see their own worlds reflected in media, and today more than ever, those include the lives of LGBT people," said Mike Thompson, GLAAD's Acting President.

The GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies will be held in New York on March 24, before heading to Los Angeles on April 21 and San Francisco on June 2.
