Lady Gaga hits 24m Twitter followers, celebs Mothers Day messages
The most followed microbloggers on Twitter and Sina Weibo have reached record-breaking follower milestones.
Lady Gaga has become the first person on Twitter to exceed 24 million followers while Sina Weibo user Yao Chen has broken the 20 million fans milestone on Chinas Twitter equivalent.
Twitter celebrities have spent the weekend sending special messages to mothers around the globe in celebration of Mothers Day.
Thank you for all my mother's day messages! But the real happy day is for my mommy! Happy Mothers day mom, you're the best there ever was! tweeted Lady Gaga.
Katy Perry said she took her mom for a day at the spa followed by lunch while Kim Kardashian tweeted that she had an amazing breakfast with her family before running off to a special shoot for Vogue Italia.
Rihanna celebrated being a mom to her pooch and posted a picture of her pampered pet with the words I had mothers day too.
President Barack Obama told his followers I'm lucky to be celebrating Mother's Day with Michelle and the girls today. Hope you're having a good one too before sending out special Mothers Day messages to winners of the Mother's Day grassroots fundraising contest and tweeting that his mom "was the single most important influence on my life."
This week Sina microbloggers Xie Na and Li Bingbing hit follower milestones of 17 million and 15 million respectively.
Third party estimates put Twitter at more than 500 million registered users. Sina reported that it had more than 300 million registered users on Sina Weibo in February 2012.
