Alice Cooper: I influenced Lady Gaga

Image
Legendary American rocker Alice Cooper recently received a note that he found rather amusing. It was from none other than the Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga. She wrote: "Dear Alice, thank you for letting me steal your show. Gaga." Cooper, whose real name is Vincent Damon Furnier, said with a chuckle: "We're (now) old buddies." The veteran performer, now 63, was speaking to my paper over the phone from Auckland, New Zealand, where he was on tour. He added that he replied to Gaga, telling the 25-year-old pop star that she didn't "steal" his show, though he could see his influence in her performances. Gaga is a "shock rocker" much like Cooper, who will be playing his first gig here on Wednesday at the Hard Rock Hotel's Coliseum in Resorts World Sentosa. The only difference is that Detroit-born Cooper has been at it for over 40 years. He received the appellation by accident, after an incident involving a live chicken at one of his earl

Lady Gaga Stars in Toothy Film for Paris Mugler Show Little Monsters brace yourselves for the next wave of Gaga vision. The lights were dimming at Nicola Formichetti's Spring 2012 Mugler show, when a video of Lady Gaga flickered over the runway. As a pigtailed, diamond gap-toothed Gaga gyrated and quivered, she proclaims: "I am a Mugler woman. Don't f*ck with me. Don't fu*ck with Mugler. Welcome to Paris. We are Paris. Jesus is the new black." As the video cut out and the lights flashed on a never before heard remix of "Black Jesus † Amen Fashion" trumpeted in the space. Although the singer's presence lacked the same explosion of excitement as last season's show when Ms. Gaga herself strutted down the catwalk, it was nonetheless captivating. The clothes in the Mugler collection held true to Formichetti's vision and Mugler's extraordinary style. Slightly more wearable then previous collections, the spring line avoided the use of latex and

Lady Gaga announces that ‘Marry the Night’ will be the fifth single off ‘Born This Way’ — Do you think it’s the best ... Paws up! Are you ready to dance? Last night it was announced the fifth single off Lady Gaga’s Born This Way would be fan favorite “Marry The Night.” A release date hasn’t been set, but power piano ballad “YoĆ¼ And I“ is still in the Top 10, so it would make sense for her to wait a bit before officially putting “Marry The Night” out to radio. Then again, when has Gaga ever taken the conventional approach? With the typical pop tracks from Born This Way already released — “Judas” and “Edge of Glory” — as well as her title anthem, it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the album holds up on radio. Born This Way as a whole is lot less get-this-party-started than The Fame or The Fame Monster, and many tracks are more piano and electronic-driven, which doesn’t necessarily translate to Top 40. Interestingly, “Marry The Night” was supposed to be the third single, coming o

Lady Gaga is suing a cosmetics and jewellery company for trying to use her name on its products. The Grammy Award-winning pop star is suing Excite Worldwide LLC in New York. The lawsuit says the company applied without her permission to trademark the names Lady Gaga and Lady Gaga LG for a make-up and jewellery range. Excite Worldwide didn't respond to telephone messages at numbers listed for the company in Chicago and Henderson, Nevada. Official merchandise Lady Gaga is in the process of developing her own range of products. The singer has registered her name for clothes, ringtones, her website and chat rooms and has trademark pending for hair, body and nail products. The lawsuit says customers could be duped into thinking she's affiliated with Excite Worldwide's products. She's seeking unspecified damages. This is not the first time Lady Gaga has taken action to protect her name. In March she took legal action against an ice cream shop in London selling breast milk ice
