Lady Gaga Gives U.S. Gymnasts a 'Squeeze'; Bieber Tweets Wieber
Winning a gold medal was certainly a big deal for the U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team. But, for Jordyn Wieber, Gabrielle Douglas, Aly Raisman, Kyla Ross and McKayla Maroney, another level of excitement came when two of pop's heavy hitters, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber, tweeted their support.
While presumably watching the (tape delayed) gymnastics team finals last night, Lady Gaga tweeted "Those girls are tearing the floor up for the USA! #Olympics." After the team officially took home the gold, the pop star followed up in true Gaga style with "Woohoo! Gold for the ladies! just want to squeeze them! So much talent and beauty. Did u seem all holding hands? There's no "I" in team." This tweet, a mixture of quirky ("squeeze?") and love of teamwork prompted an adorable conversation between Mother Monster and team member McKayla Maroney.
"Thanks for watching @ladygaga!! This team loves you & your music!! I also heard you were a gymnast?? ;)" Gaga then responded saying she was only a gymnast "for like a week," but seemed rather starstruck that Maroney was tweeting at her. " @mckaylamaroney tweeted at me! Why didnt anybody tell me!!! DEAD. You were brilliant give all the girls a kiss for me!"
Justin Bieber ( @justinbieber) also gave a shout-out to the girls, who are apparently big fans of his, as well.
However, just because Bieber loves his gold winning American fans, it doesn't mean he is turning his back on his home country of Canada. After expressing his congratulations to the Americans, he tweeted "now time for Canada to win some. #TeamCanada #Olympics."
