Lady GaGa has 156 million YouTube music video views wiped

Lady GaGa has lost 156 million views during YouTube's recent clean-up.

The singer's official account had the views wiped from her total tally after the video-sharing network decided to conduct an audit of the site to clear any old videos.

YouTube has been deleting videos from artists' original accounts, after the clips had been redistributed to their official VEVO pages.

However, a spokesperson has confirmed that Lady GaGa's lost views were from her official VEVO channel, reports Billboard.

At the time of the initial purge, the spokesperson explained: "This was not a bug or a security breach. This was an enforcement of our viewcount policy."

YouTube originally decided to conduct an audit of the site after speculating that hackers had boosted certain artists' views using count-building techniques.

It has wiped over 2 billion views across the site, with artists such as Beyonc, Michael Jackson and Chris! Brown also losing substantial views.

A large amount of "dead" videos have also been removed, which were clips that were no longer being viewed or used by artists.
