Cape Town - Lady Gaga shared pics on Twitter of her roaming with lions while on safari in South Africa, and raved about her experience performing in Johannesburg.

The 26-year-old pop queen is in South Africa for her first tour here and showed her wild side by getting close to a pride of lions in the wild.

"SAFARI PICTURE: in this photo I'm about 10 feet from 13 lions, 2 cubs. I spent about 30 minutes w them and took a nap!" she tweeted on Saturday.

In the pic, Gaga whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta can be seen wearing a sunhat with the top removed to accommodate her high ponytail.

"& yes I cut a hole in my bush hat so my pony could stick out," she later told her nearly 32 million followers. "#SafariBarbie #Glambi my scarf was a gift from the Princess of Monaco, thanku!"

At one point during her Johannesburg show, Gaga told the crowd: "I am not an alien, I am not a woman, I am not a man, I am not a creature of your government, South Africa. I am you!"

The controversial singer has been the subject of protests by the South African Council of Churches who marched to the department of Arts and Culture in Pretoria, saying they are worried about the "destructive impact" Lady Gaga can have on South Africa's youth.

Lady Gaga will next perform at the Cape Town Stadium on Monday.
