Lady Gaga launches own social network
Shes the queen of Twitter, with 26.8 million followers, and one of the most liked Facebook users. (If youve ever wondered who in the world uses Google+, at least 2.8 million people follow her on that platform.) But why reign somebody elses social network, when you can be Lord and Lady of your own? To that end, Lady Gaga launched LittleMonsters.com to the general public, today the pop stars very own social network, another plaything to add to her piles of trophies, wigs and McQueen booties.
Early reports like this one via Mashable suggest the site is a platform that looks a lot like Pinterest, but functions a lot like Reddit, with nav bars reminiscent of those on Google+. And, because its a social network especially made for Mother Monsters many tech-savvy spawn, Littlemonsters.com isnt encouraging a mass migration. Theyd like you to continue liking Gagz elsewhere, please and thank you.
Backplane, a tech startup which counts Gagas manager, Troy Carter, as one of its founders, built the new site. As the companys CEO, Matt Michelsen, told Mashable: We love Facebook its a very powerful tool, he said. This is not a product meant to destroy or compete with Facebook. Its a different purpose.
That purpose would seem to be bringing together little monsters through their shared little monsterhood. Users can share their interests, send personal messages and participate in discussion groups, all while adhering to the inclusive tenets of something called the Monster Code. (Huffington Post notes that current topics include: Lady Gaga, bullying and Lady Gaga.) This being a fan-site, Littlemonsters.com gives users ways of ! tracking Gaga-related headlines and ticket sales. As for its chat tool, Mashable notes that the site features a multilingual chat feature, one designed to help users communicate through the international language of Gaga fandom.
We wanted to create an experience where language barriers were no longer barriers and where Gaga can communicate with fans in different countries and languages, Michelsen said.
