Lady Gaga set to perform live on 'Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve'

Lady Gaga is set to ring in the New Year in Times Square with an estimated crowd of one million people.

It was announced that the pop star will perform live just before the ball drops on December 31 in her hometown of New York City for "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2012" on ABC.

The show is also set to feature performances from music artists such as Justin Bieber, LMFAO, Florence + The Machine, Nicki Minaj, Blink-182 and Pitbull.

The night's festivities begin at 8 p.m. with a two-hour special called "New Year's Rockin' Eve: The 40th Anniversary Party" to m! ark the 40th anniversary of the annual New Year's Eve show which began with Dick Clark in 1971.

"Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2012" will air at 10 p.m. on ABC following the special and will be hosted by Dick Clark, Ryan Seacrest and Jenny McCarthy in New York. Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie will host segments from Los Angeles.

"Lady Gaga is one of the most exciting and relevant artists of our time, and we're thrilled to have her join 'New Year's Rockin' Eve' this year in Times Square," Seacrest said in a statement. "I'm especially honored to share the stage with the legendary Dick Clark, who is celebrating his 40th year hosting the show, which he created and transformed into one of the most iconic American television programs."

The pop singer, who is known for her extravagant costumes and provocative performances, was recently named "Entertainer of the Year" by The Associated Press.

Lady Gaga's 2011 album "Born This Way" has earned her numerous awards and nominations, for her hit singles which include "Judas," "Born This Way," "You and I" and "The Edge of Glory." The record debuted in the top five spots in almost every major market and received three Grammy nominations including Album of the Year, which marked the singer's third consecutive nod in the category.
